Are airlines responsible for lost items?

Airlines's liability for lost items depends on whether the item was part of your checked baggage or was unchecked (such as carry-on baggage or personal belongings). Checked Baggage:
Finnair is liable for the destruction, loss, or damage to checked baggage up to 1,519 Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) (approximately EUR 1,900). If your checked baggage is delayed, Finnair may compensate reasonable costs for necessary items purchased during your trip. Unchecked Baggage (Carry-On and Personal Items):
Finnair's liability for unchecked baggage applies only if the loss or damage was due to the airline's fault or negligence. For items left onboard, Finnair advises contacting the relevant lost and found office to inquire about recovery.
